The Ida Jane Dress features gathered shoulder straps that begin at the waistline, extend over the shoulders, and attach at the back waistline, creating the defining design element of the dress. This gathering is echoed in the front bodice panel and the full gathered skirt for a cohesive look. The bodice has a lower-cut back and closes with Velcro for easy dressing. The dress is fully lined, designed for woven fabrics, and is part of the mix-and-match collection, coordinating with the Elena Jumpsuit, Carol Romper, and Dorothy Dress, so bodices and bottoms can be interchanged to create multiple outfit combinations. This pattern also includes variations for a sheer fabric option and a simplified non-gathered bodice.

This doll clothes pattern is for 18 inch dolls.  It is fitted to dolls with the waist measurements of 10 1/2″-11″.

Materials and Supplies:

Main Fabric – Light to medium weight woven fabric – ¼–½ yard (½ yard recommended for directional prints or print matching)

  • Optional Lining Fabric- ¼ yard (see below)
  • ½” Stay Tape-20 ½”
  • ¼” wide Wonder Tape (Used for Velcro placement.)
  • Velcro- soft and flexible cut to 3/8″ x 3″
  • 1 Small safety pin
  • Disappearing ink marking pen
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Coordinating thread
  • Basic sewing supplies (Pins, scissors, pinking shears, iron, seam ripper, ball point sewing machine needle and a sewing machine.)

    The Augusta Gown Pattern is designed with tiers of ruffles and full sleeves.  The skirt is made with gathered tulle, lace or mesh. Add 2 tiers for a short skirt, 3 tiers for a mid length skirt and 4 tiers for a full length gown.  The bodice is fully lined and can be sewn with or without a sheer overlay. It features a diamond neckline.  The sheer sleeves can be sewn with 1 layer or 3 layers.  If the fabric is drapey the sleeve will hang beautifully.  For stiffer fabric or for a fuller look, add a few stitches to the top of the sleeve to tack the fabric in place.  It gives the sleeves a full and flouncy look.  Instructions are included with the option for no sleeves.  This dress is elegant, showcasing the beauty of these sheer fabrics.
