Using different fabric on doll clothes patterns makes for an endless variety of looks! You can use different colors and designs or even experiment with different types of fabric. Today I want to show you the Swim Sarong pattern sewn with lace fabric instead of a regular woven fabric.
I am using a lace fabric that has no stretch and the edges have no-fray.
When sewing with fabric that has unique designs like lace, line up the pattern template with the design. I lined up the bottom edge of the Swim Sarong pattern template with the scallop design.
If you have a no-fray lace you can cut around the lace design for the edge. Pictured above you can see the scalloped edge on the lace makes a fun finish for the Swim Sarong. The lace is no-fray, so there is no need for a hem on the bottom edge.
When cutting out lace pattern pieces, line up the facing and Swim Sarong on the lace design so they match. Since you can see through the lace it gives it a neater look.
Finally if your lace is not heat tolerant, and cannot be pressed with an iron, top stitch the lace along the edges with seams. This will give it a nice flat finish.
I am loving the texture and look of the lace on the Swim Sarong! I hope you enjoyed these tips and will try using different fabrics to get different looks with your doll clothes patterns!
