I wanted to share the transformation of this doll bed! In it’s previous life it was a…
…a crafter’s toolbox. (I guess thats what this is???)
Here it is before we sanded it. I wanted you to see the block of wood in the bottom that we had to work around. More on that in a minute!
This thrift store find was a good candidate for a bed make over. The boys took it on during our Santa’s workshop week. They brainstormed, cut, sanded, and attached. All changes that made this transformation truly possible!
When reworking a piece there are always problems to solve. The first decision was, in a effort to make it look more like a bed, lower the footboard.
Another issue was the block of wood already in the bottom (see pic 2). The boys put in another block of wood on the opposite end and cut and attached a thin board on top.
To cover the holes where the handles once were, these wooden flowers were glued on both sides of the headboard.
It was decided the bed needed some legs. That proved trickier than expected. After a few days to mull it over, we had to solve this dilemma because the day to turn in the gifts was rapidly approaching. After browsing the thrift store for a bed leg stand-in I came upon these massagers/doll bed legs.
Combined with a fresh coat of paint, the toolbox has been officially transformed!
It is rewarding to take something that has lost it’s purpose and transform it into something useful. I think it turned out so well, and was such a fun part of the gift we put together. It was also fun having the boys so involved. They really took it on!
I’ll be sharing about the facelift on the nightstand and the sewing projects my oldest daughter and I tackled!
Hope this inspires you to look for things that can be transformed into something beautiful for your doll or doll lover!
