I have two doll bedding projects I wanted to share pictures and tips for.
I made these for my nieces as part of their “santa gift”. I have to mention their mom, my sister, had a cute baby boy the day after Christmas! Congrats, Sis! I saw him on FaceTime and oh, I can’t wait to see him in person! So adorable! The first toe head in the family!
Anyways, she had a doll bed in mind for Christmas for the girls but was having a hard time finding bedding she liked.
She had color and pattern suggestions to get me started. One likes turquoise and green.
And one likes pinks and purples.
I had a fun time scoping out the fabric and emailing her pics of ideas. It was our long distance collaboration. It really was fun!
My biggest dilemma was using fabric with the right weight and print size. It is an important factor if you want it to look realistic and “to scale” for the dolls.
I’ll share with you what I used.
The line up for the pink and purple bedding:
- The pink zebra sparkly flannel from JoAnn’s is the mattress, blanket backing, and pillows.
- The print in sparkly flannel from JoAnn’s is the blanket top.
- The black and white zebra is a cotton from Walmart. It is the tube pillow.
- The purple peace fleece is made from a little girls’ jacket from the thrift store with a broken zipper.
- The satin star pillow is made from jammy pants from the thrift store.
The line up for the turquoise and green bedding:
- The green zebra cotton from JoAnn’s is the mattress, blanket backing, and pillows.
- The turquoise minky dot from JoAnn’s is the blanket top.
- The black and white zebra is a cotton from Walmart. It is the tube pillow.
- The turquoise leopard knit pillow is made from a tank top from the thrift store.
- The black and white fleece from JoAnn’s is the round pillow.
- The green stretch netting flower is made from a tank top from the thrift store.
- Black beads are in the flower center.
As you can see from my list I like to use fabric you buy by the yard and fabric upcycled from clothing. It is really fun to shop for “fabric” in the clothing section at the thrift store. Often the fabric weight, prints, and colors are better than you can find at the fabric store. I often find types of fabric that are popular now but not available at the fabric store.
For this project, using upcycled clothing for fabric, worked really well for the accent pillows on both bedding sets.
Hope this helps you get started if you are thinking of making your own doll bedding!

The bedding turned out so cute! I bet your nieces loved them. Great tip to shop for fabric at a thrift store. Over the last year, I made a lot of doll clothes out of my daughters’ clothing that no longer fits. It was a nice was to get another use out of some of their favorite outfits.

Jen, Thanks so much! I agree, it is so awesome to give a shirt a new life as a doll outfit or accessory! It is a fun little keepsake for your girls if it was a favorite outfit! It lives on in your doll closet! 🙂

Can you give some instructions on how you made the tube pillow?
Anna says
Amy, Thanks for the request! I will put a tutorial together for the tube pillow. Check back! 🙂

If strangers saw that one photos, they’d think a professional factory made that!!! Anna, you are a genius! Thanks for sharing!! Thats a wonderful way to make it!! I think I’m going to a thrift shop really soon now!!

Rebekah says

Anna says
Rebekah, Thanks! That set was fun to put together! I’m working on another bedding set. I fell in love with a top fabric and I went to pick out the back fabric. The one I had in mind, that I’d seen earlier, was gone! 🙁 Hmmm, I’m going to hold off for a few weeks to see if they get it back in stock!
