Halloween is just around the corner and I’ve been sewing a few festive dresses for our doll wardrobe!
Today I wanted to share one of them.
It was made out of a toddler’s skirt from Walmart. I’ve made a few doll dresses the same way. I used a combination of this tutorial and this tutorial for the dress and this tutorial for the sleeves.
The skirt I used has two layers, a sheer mesh layer and a knit underneath. One thing that’s a little different with this skirt is that the knit fabric has four seams instead of two. When deciding where to cut the skirt I lined up 2 of the seams for the side seams of the doll dress.
As for the sleeve, I sewed it to the inside of the bodice instead of the outside like I did in the sleeve tutorial.
Here is a look at the back of the sleeve.
Every time I finish one of these doll dresses from a skirt I’m reminded how unique each dress is. The dress shape is very simple. It’s the fabric and the details on the toddler’s skirt that really shine.
Of course, since this is a repurpose project it is quick! (I like quick! 🙂 )
We are enjoying our fun and festive Halloween dress!

Sammi, Her head moves a little. It looks so realistic if you watch someone else hold her because the head sort of bobs around just like a newborn! Especially when you are picking her up and putting her to your shoulder-like when you “burp” a baby. Hope that makes sense!
