I still have a few Christmas projects trickling in on the blog. The holiday’s are always a whirlwind. I whipped out this project just in time for Christmas morning, so there are no step by step photos. It is a pretty simple project. Let’s take a closer look at the finished set!
Baby has been sleeping well since Christmas!
I’ve made similar bedding sets for dolls over the years and I basically made this set the same way for Baby. I did try something new for the quilt that I will show you a little later.
Here is the whole set. There is a mattress, quilt, and three pillows.
Comfy Mattress
I made a few of these mattresses over the years for my nieces’ dolls. We have even used the mattress as a doll bed on the floor. Hoorah, they are a quick sew!
It is made basically the same way as our doll size chair cushions. If you missed it, here is the tutorial. One difference from the tutorial is that this mattress has buttons in the dimples. There are 6 buttons on each side. Buttons on one side match up with the buttons on the other side. I used buttons on one of our earliest chair cushions and it is an easy way to draw the fabric together by stitching through one button and then the other. It adds a nice decorative touch!
The only other tip I have is to cut the mattress larger than the space for it on the bed. Once you add the batting the mattress puffs up and shrinks the overall size.
Decorative Pillows
For the pillows I used scraps from the quilt fabric to make reversible pillows. To make the small square or rectangle pillow simply sew two squares or rectangles of fabric, right sides together, and leave an opening. Clip the corners and turn it inside out. Add batting and sew the opening shut and you are finished.
Quilt
I had every intention of making an adorable pieced quilt. Time was short and I soon realized simplifying and speeding up the project was in order. Luck has it that I ran across this remnant at JoAnn’s and it was just what I needed. This type of fabric is found with the baby nursery fabrics. With this particular piece there are 4 fabrics already sewn together. Simply add a backing and this quilt was finished!
I sewed the quilt just like the mattress or a pillow only I left out the batting and top stitched around the whole quilt.
To make the quilt reversible, I used this purple polka dot fabric on the back.
The blanket is 15″ x 15″ and fits the doll and her bed really well! It is also the perfect size to set baby on to play.
Lay baby down on the diagonal and she fits perfect!
Tuck her into bed and she is all snuggled up and ready for dream-land!
Good night baby!
Hope you enjoyed this quick and easy bedding set for dolls.
Stay tuned for a closer look at the baby bed!
