Last week we jumped into chore time with mopping. This week we can finish up the household chores with a cleaning tote loaded up with everything we need to make the dollhouse spotless!
This little cleaning tote is loaded up with a variety of sponges, a scrubber, a feather duster and a rag.
Now Morgan can tackle the rest of her chores!
While she checks the chores off the chore chart let’s take a closer look at the tote and all the cleaning supplies!
Cleaning Tote
The base of the cleaning tote is a plastic lid. It is actually the lid to the container I made the mop bucket out of. So, if you have the same nestle cocoa powered container, save the lid! No worries if you don’t, a scan through the pantry and you can find another lid to repurpose!
For the sides of the tote cut 1″ wide strips.
Glue the strips along the inside edge of the tote.
Cut and glue a strip in place to divide the tote in half. Cut and glue a narrower strip for the handle. Mine is about 3/8″. It’s time to fill it with cleaning supplies!
Feather Duster
For the feather duster you will need craft feathers, a bamboo skewer, glue and duck tape. Start with a pile of craft feathers that are about the same size.
Cut the bamboo skewer to 3 1/4″. Arrange the feathers on the end of the handle overlapping it about 1″. Place a dab of glue on the handle and hold the feathers in place until glue sets.
With a small strip of duck tape secure the end of the feathers that are on the handle.
Hold the feather tips together in a bunch. Trim the very ends so that the are relatively even.
Time to do some dusting!
Scrubber
Okay I got a little crazy with this one! In my search for doll sized cleaning supplies I realized the head of a toothbrush was a great size for a doll size scrubber.
I cut mine off using a miter box and saw. Then I trimmed the edges with a pair of scissors and realized the plastic was soft. It probably would work to cut the head off with a sturdy pair of scissors. This needs to be done with an adult!
Let’s make a handle for our scrubber. Cut a strip of craft foam about 3/8″ wide. Fold the strip in half and glue. Hold the strip up to the scrubber and trim it the same length. Glue it to the back side of the scrubber.
Sponges
For the sponges I used regular sponges cut down to doll size. Mine measure 1 5/8″x 7/8″. I trimmed the scrubbing side off of the sponges. I left the scrubbing side on one of the sponges, only trimming it down a bit.
Rags
For a dolls rag I simply cut down one of our old rags. It measures 4 1/2″x 3 1/2″. I like the texture and the way it looks like it’s been put to use, even in the doll world!
It’s time to load the tote up…
…and get back to the chores!
Let’s see, Hmmm, what chore is next?
These cleaning supplies are fun, fun, fun, for doll scenes or play!

I used an old travel size hairspray bottle as multi-purpose spray and cut up an old mini trash bag and turned it into trash bags for the dolls!
