-I’m continuing the doll bakery inspired crafts today! For those of you that may be new around here, it’s one of many crafts inspired by a Grace Thomas, a doll and book series by American Girl. Although, ultimately everything around here is inspired by play and creating! –
Happy day, I was able to work on a few more bakery items this weekend!
I promise I haven’t forgotten the printable for the kitchen canisters we made last week! I still want to add a few more goodies to the printable and then I will share it!
Today I have a cute little display table for the bakery.
It is a fun shape and size for spreading out cookies and cakes for sale.
Making the Table
We are going to walk through the process of how I made this table and what I used. This is the kind of project you my not be able to replicate exactly but the supplies are general enough it should be no problem to come up with your own variation.
The table base is a candle stand, measuring 8 1/2″ tall.
My tabletop is a metal plaque, measuring 9 1/2″x 5 1/4″. You could also use an unfinished wooden plaque from a craft store.
I have had the candle stand and plaque in my stash from the thrift store for a while. They are pretty common decorations and you should be able find both at a variety of stores on the craft or home decor aisles.
I was inspired to use the metal plaque as a tabletop after seeing Stephanie, from Many Small Friends use a decorative wood plaque as a countertop on her bakery cabinet. Genius!
I liked the general look of the plaque but it did have a hole at each end that I wanted to cover up.
It worked well to trace and cut out the shape of the table out of black paper. The paper covered the holes and gave the tabletop a solid finish.
So the paper firmly adhered to the metal, I coated the back of the paper and the top of the table with decoupage.
Be sure to allow adequate time for it to dry!
I added a top coat of decoupage, over the entire tabletop and allow it to dry.
Let the fun begin!
I am loving all the curved edges on the table!
Grace is ready to sell fresh cookies and cakes!
I hope this project gives you inspiration and details to make your own little display table for your bakery!
I love finding new uses for items and making them into doll furniture!
Keep crafting!
