Baby clothes can sometimes be easily made into doll clothes. This project turned out to be a cinch and I wanted to share a few things about it.
I started with a 0-3 month baby skirt. It cost me 50 cents at the thrift store.
First I took a look at the construction of the skirt. I didn’t want to mess with the waistband and elastic because they were sewn through 4 times. I wanted to keep the same basic shape of the skirt. The length was good, so all that needed to be done was to “take in” the side seam.
Here it is turned inside out and pinned to the desired width.
To keep the same shape of the skirt I followed the existing side seam, making sure the distance between the two stayed the same all the way down. I used a straight stitch and then a zigzag stitch, to it to keep it from fraying after I cut it.
Here is the new side seam after cutting off the excess and turning it right-side out.
Here it is from the front. You can see the new seam is a tad bulkier than the other side but hardly noticeable.
All done and ready to play! I can hardly believe this cute doll skirt was a baby skirt just moments ago!
Hope this gives you ideas for making some of those baby clothes you come across into doll clothes!

I found this at just the right time. We were recently traveling and happened to stop at a resale shop and found several skirts for newborns, brand new and so cute. I knew I could make them smaller for the granddaughter’s 18 inch dolls but you just made it easier for me. You did all the thinking for me and I can just follow your directions. thank you
