Okay my favorite customized shoes are these sparkly little gems. I don’t know why but as soon as I painted on the shimmer, my eyes glittered and it stole my heart.
But one style doesn’t fit all and that’s the idea behind customizing these little doll shoes. Come on over to Doll Diaries for all the details on this project if you haven’t seen it yet. Be sure and come back, if you can’t wait to see the shoe tutorial, because I am so excited to share a little fun gift idea for a doll fan, enthusiast, lover, appreciator…you know the type! 🙂
I wrote the “Customize Doll Shoes” tutorial for Doll Diaries and as I took a look at the project I couldn’t help but think how it would make up into a fun little doll craft kit for a gift. I remember a couple of years ago my daughter couldn’t get enough of craft kits, for birthdays, for Christmas, they were on her list!
To make this project into a craft kit, buy the main supplies, print off the supply list with a link to the directions (Of course that means I made the printable for you!), and wrap it up cute! You have a fabulous gift for that someone in your life that loves dolls!
Of course, this idea can be applied to any simple craft you like and can wrap up easily. This sort of thing can be very affordable and that always makes me smile!
Now let’s talk numbers for this craft kit. It turns out it looks a little like an infomercial! 🙂 First, let’s take the regular prices. That’s if you go to the store or shop online right now and nothing is on sale and you have no coupons.
Regular prices:
- Extreme Glitter Craft Paint 2 oz-$2.49
- Soft Fabric Paint by Tulip 1 oz- 1.99
- Springfield Collection Black Shoes- $4.99
- confetti dot fabric 1/8 yard- $0.88
- foam craft paint brush-3/$1-$0.33
Total=10.64
Now $10.64 is a great price for a craft kit. It’s not that you are just buying someone a new pair of doll shoes, but the crafting, experience, and activity that is involved. It’s the fun involved in making them! On Amazon, American Girl Craft kits range from about $7.50-$14.00. You can feel confident that $10.64 is a great price to pay for this fun little kit.
I’m a bargain hunter and I want to show you the price can come even lower. I’m modest in the prices I’m showing you today, so it doesn’t present some false hope or ridiculous bending-over-backwards to match the price I’m showing you. I googled the prices today on these items, all at local stores for me and one online shop. These sale prices are modest, ranging from 20%-30%. Add it all up and now the price is $8.33! Wow, for an all-in-one craft kit, that is super!

Here is the little printable I promised you. It will really add a finishing touch to the gift. (And for those of you who saw that the section labeled “For instructions visit-” was blank in the picture, no worries, it’s included on the printable!)
Simply print it out and make a few craft kits for friends, daughters, granddaughters…all who love dolls and crafts!
There is a “Supplies Included” section for you to gather and include in the gift. There is also a “Supplies Needed” section for the receiver to gather the items they probably already have on hand for the project. Things like glue, scissors, thread and a needle. Place the items from the “Supplies Included” list in a gift bag or decorate a paper sack you have on hand like I did. With a few tissue paper circles I gave my white paper sack some pizzaz. Fold the top down, punch 2 holes, and tie curled ribbons to dress it up.
Tape the label on the back or simply slip it into the gift bag!
She’ll open it up and find a one-of-a-kind craft kit and have fun adding her own creative touch to make a one-of-a-kind pair of doll shoes!
After all creativity and play go hand in hand!
With this little doll craft kit you will share the joy of creating!
Create more, play more!

I’d love to do this for my granddaughter for Christmas but the link for the printable leads to the potion bottle labels. Is this printable still available?
Anna says
Thanks for letting me know the link wasn’t working! I fixed it tonight!
