Yesterday we took a detailed look at Grace. (If you missed it go here.)  While I was putting together the post I realized her hair needed a spotlight all it’s own!

We will start with a look at her hairstyle, talk about hair color, we’ll see what her side swept bangs are all about, and check out her mini french braid!

Hairstyle

Grace wear’s her long dark brown hair straight with a small side braid.  It is layered on the sides and in the back. In the photo you can see the shortest pieces of hair on each side.  It is about ” shorter than the overall length.

Below you can see how the layers taper down the sides.  This shot also shows the length of the hair.

The back only has small layering right at the base.  The hair curls under slightly.

Color

The chunky highlights in Grace’s shiny dark brown hair are lovely in person.  They are subtle and add texture and dimension to her hair.

Last week I took a closer look at American Girl dolls with brown hair on Doll Diaries.  Grace was featured with other dolls if you want to see how her hair compares with darkness and color.  (Visit that post here if you are interested.)

 Side Swept Bangs

Before we look at the front of the bangs I think it is interesting to look at how her hair is parted.  It is a short side part.  As you can see below the braid and bangs connect to the part.

There are two parts to the side swept bangs.  There is a small section that connects to the part and a section that comes forward across her forehead.  If you lift the small section near the part you can see the braid continues across her forehead as well.

The small section of the bang is what gives the bangs a side swept look.

If you push all the bangs down you can see the basic shape of the bangs.  They hang in her eyes and are cut very jagged.

As far as styling Grace’s bangs, a reader had a question about whether the bangs could be styled forward.  When you push the hair forward it lays flat against her forehead and hangs in her eyes.  There is no way to fluff them up so I don’t think it will work to wear them forward.

You can decide how far you sweep the bangs over though.  There is really not very much hair in the bangs and they easily shape over to the side.  You can leave some of the bangs hanging in her eyes or sweep them far over to the side so it’s hard to tell they are bangs at all.

Braid

Grace comes with a simple french braid that we will take out to style her hair different ways.  We will definitely braid it back in from time to time because it is so cute on her.

The french braid is just across the top of her head.  It is the type of braid that is only attached on one side.  I wrote a tutorial for one of these braids on Doll Diaries a few months ago.  If you want to try it on your dolls go here.

The braid continues to about her shoulder.

We haven’t had a chance styling Grace’s hair different ways yet.  Her hair seems like it will be fun and easy to style.
