How to use Deco Foil to embellish doll clothes

How to use Deco Foil from Therm O Web to embellish doll clothes

I love to embellish doll clothes because it is a great way to personalize a project.  Therm O Web sent me their Deco Foil products and after trying out the products I wanted to foil a whole doll wardrobe!  There are many pattern in my book My Doll, My Style that would be so cute with a metallic embellishment!

What I love about Deco Foil

  • It is easy to use! It doesn’t take long to apply and is not messy.
  • The metallic foil finish is trendy and cute!
  • The foil comes in a variety of lovely colors for a variety of different looks.
  • It works great on fabric.  It can be hand washed or machine washed on cold and laid flat to dry.

Materials:

I will show you how to use the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive with the Transfer Sheets.   You can also refer to the directions included on the package for using the adhesive on fabric.  I recommend practicing the process on a scrap of fabric.  I used the iron 15 sec instead of the recommended 30 sec.  When you test it on fabric you can get a feel for what will work best for your fabric and iron.  Let’s get started!

1. Place a sheet of Hot Melt Adhesive between a folded piece of parchment paper.  You need the parchment paper to protect the adhesive from coming off of the Hot Melt Adhesive sheet.  Punch through the layers with a paper punch.

2. Place the shape punched from the Hot Melt Adhesive with the bumpy side of the shape on the right side of the fabric.  Place a piece of parchment paper over the shape.  On a medium dry setting, iron the parchment paper over the shape for 15-30 seconds, moving the iron the whole time.

3. Let the shape cool for a few minutes.  Peel off the paper backing and the adhesive will stay on the fabric.

4. Place a rectangle of Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheet that is larger than the shape, with the colored side up.  Lay parchment paper over the foil.  On a medium dry setting, iron the parchment paper over the shape for 15-40 seconds, moving the iron the whole time.

5. Remove the parchment paper and allow to cool completely.
