Fly a flag for our country.
Why? Because it’s Patriot day, September 11th.
We fly the flag to remember those who died on September 11, 2001 and also to remember that our country stayed strong in the face of a massive terrorist attack.
Let me show you how I made this doll size flag pole.
I used some scrap wood I had left over from some other projects.
A piece of a 2X4 and a 3/4″ dowel.
I sanded them until they were nice and smooth and…
drilled a 3/4″ hole.
I tried drilling a hole in my dowel and realized the wood was too hard to safely put a 1″ deep hole in it. So I improvised and cut off the thread of this toilet plunger handle. NO, it’s not used! YES, it’s brand new. Doesn’t everyone have a brand new toilet plunger handle in their scrap pile!!! Well, if you haven’t discovered it, NEW, toilet plungers make great giant suction toys that your kids can go around experimenting with! Try it! It’s fun!
Here is the cut off thread with a hole drilled and the skinny flag pole inserted. This was my plan to connect the existing skinny flag pole to the stand.
Then add a little wood glue to connect it all together.
When it’s dry add some paint.
I added some thin wire to the top and bottom of the flag so the colors could “wave” in the breeze.
Now with the wire I can shape the flag as I want.
All finished!
Come up with a way to display a flag today and remember those that died on this day 11 years ago.
And remember how we came together as a country in the face of a terrible terrorist attack.
