I have been dreaming up these cupcakes since Christmas. Sometimes it takes an idea a while to mull around in my head, until it comes out and is ready to be made. Since it’s so close to St. Patrick’s Day I wanted to share a version fit for a leprechaun.
I’m going for bold color ever since I saw these cupcakes on the cover of the JoAnn’s, We Teach Catalog. In December I shared this photo on Facebook of the JoAnn’s catalog and my pom pom doll version starting to come together. With the busy month I didn’t finish whipping up a batch of the doll sized cupcakes.
I needed to work out the cupcake wrappers and this week I sat down to draw out a pattern so I could create doll size cupcakes for any occasion.
These are no fuss and a quick make. Need a doll size party spread? Need a few doll size treats? Whip up a batch of pom pom cupcakes!
Let’s take a look at what we’ll need.
Supplies:
- scissors
- Doll Size Cupcake Printable PDF
- pom pom
- shaped confetti (For St. Patrick’s Day I’m using a shamrock shape.)
- glue
Print out the Doll Size Cupcake Printable PDF on the back of a piece of patterned paper. Cut out the cupcake wrapper pattern.
Bring together the two ends, line up the top edges of each end, overlap slightly and glue together.
Choose an oversized pom pom for the dome of the cupcake.
Try the pom pom in the wrapper to see placement. Push the pom pom down and pull it through the bottom of the wrapper.
Now let’s glue the pom pom in place. Take the pom pom off and place glue around the upper edge of the wrapper. Push the pom pom back in place, as before, and press it into the glue.
This cupcake is a little top heavy. To add weight to the bottom, fill the wrapper through the bottom with hot glue. I held the cupcake by the pom pom, upside down, while filling and cooling. The hot glue flattened out while it was still hot. Allow to cool in this position for a few minutes to ensure it sets up all the way.
The cupcakes sit easily on a plate. If you are interested in a no-fuss setup you could glue them directly to a plate. Follow these instructions to make an easy doll size plate.
Enjoy doll size cupcakes for any occasion!
I’m looking forward to making these in fantastically bold colors for upcoming holidays and special occasions!
