Okay I’m officially old! I’ve seen a style come full circle and back into fashion! Maybe some of you would argue it never was out-of-fashion but denim definitely had it’s heyday in the 90’s. Of course the denim that’s come back with a gusto this season has a modern twist. It’s embellished with lace, sparkle, shine, and it’s faded. I have to say it’s funny how fashion changes, because I would have NEVER mixed denim and lace or sparkle in the 90’s. NEVER.
I love the fashions today that are eclectic. It feels like such a mash-up of everything fun with styles and trends of yesteryear.
I love sewing for dolls because it’s fun to play with fashion. Today Saige is modeling a denim jacket from Springfield Collection that has had a mash-up make over. It’s been customized for dolls with a little fading and lace. The details of how I made it are over at Doll Diaries.
Denim looks especially fresh and modern paired with a purplish-pink magenta.
When sewing for dolls, finding those fresh new colors at the fabric store can be near-to-impossible. That’s another reason repurposing clothing for dolls is fun. Usually clothing leads out with the fresh new colors and fabrics before it ever hits the shelves at the fabric store. This dress was a skirt on the rack at Walmart. For $5 I essentially purchased fabric that was a pre-ruffled, sparkle dot mesh and a lightweight silky polyester knit. Both fabrics in matching colors and enough to make two doll dresses! It’s amazing the value you get repurposing when you think of it that way!
And so the mash up continues, take a look around you, put your own twist to the fashions at hand, and make it for dolls!

I’ve loved your doll’s denim jacket from the moment I saw it! Do you happen to know which stores will be carrying it? I’ve checked our local Michaels store a few times in the last few weeks, and it’s not among the new items they’re stocking. I don’t have a local ACMoore or JoAnn’s store to check. Thanks!

Thanks Christa! I’m not sure what stores carry the jacket but it is available online through the Springfield Collection website. I noticed they often have a great sale going on! http://store.springfielddolls.com/denim-doll-jacket.html
