Candy crafts are just fun with kids! I made this little candy basket with a group of girls ages 8-11 yesterday.
I came upon the idea last minute, as in, the night before the girls’ activity! My partner that helps run the group had to go out of town last minute and it turns out I had to come up with something to cover for her. Things have a way of working out, though. Wandering up and down the Easter rows at Walmart I spied these mini Reese’s cups wrapped in colorful foil and knew they would make cute candy Easter baskets. What about the handle? It is Twizzlers Pull n’ Peel licorice.
Of course I took some pics to share, if you want to make a little candy basket with some kiddos in your life!
Ingredients:
- Twizzlers Pull n’ Peel
- edible grass (green sprinkles would also work!)
- Reeses peanut butter cups
- jelly beans
- buttercream frosting (homemade or store bought)
- green sprinkles (not pictured)
Put the frosting in a plastic bag and cut the corner. This makes it super easy for kids to use. Squirt the frosting out in a thick layer on the peanut butter cup. If the frosting is not thick enough you will have trouble getting everything to stick. Place 3 jelly beans in the frosting.
I used the edible grass and cut it with clean scissors into little pieces. There are other types of green sprinkles that would be cute as the grass, if you don’t have the edible grass. I used a little green sugar sprinkles to add a little more color.
These Twizzlers Pull n’ Peel were individually wrapped in the Easter section in these cute colors, but I have seen them in other colors that would be fun on the regular candy row. Pull off a section of 3 ropes and stick it into a thick dab of frosting. These individually wrapped licorice come the perfect length. Be sure and cut longer ropes to length, about 4″.
I made the example the night before the activity and when it dried I could pick it up by the handle. It would be cute made ahead of time for a little party favor. What about one at each plate for Easter dinner?
The girls had fun putting these together! Phew, and I’m glad it went well, last minute and all!
Happy Easter!
