Well, this idea is trickling in after Christmas, but since the holiday is still fresh in our minds maybe you can save it for next year!
This is a rehash of an ornament I had growing up and would make a simple, cute and easy ornament for kids to make! I love a holiday craft or two for the kids and especially one that would make a nice gift!
I pulled out a picture of my son when he was a baby (he’s 9 now) and slipped it in this ornament. (Isn’t he sweet and squishy!) I love how photo ornaments freeze time!
This is one ornament out of a batch of matching little ornaments that went to a group of preschool age children my mom works with at church. She came over before Christmas and we brainstormed how to make a modern version of the canning lid ornament that was mine as a child. (Yes, mine had rickrack around the edges! 🙂 I should take a picture of it!) Canning rings and lids make easy, nice little frames and a few embellishments really dress them up!
Here is what we used:
Supplies:
- glitter (mine is from Consumer Crafts)
- confetti (Walmart sold this snowflake shape on the holiday gift wrap row)
- canning ring
- canning lid
- spray paint (optional)
- white glue
- paint brush
- hot glue
I pulled out several glitter colors to mix up sparkly fun for the ornament.
I had this snowflake “confetti” in my crafting stash.
My mom took it all home and came back with this lovely and simple ornament!
The canning ring is lightly spray painted white.
Paint the rim with glue and dipped it into a glitter mix.
Place the canning lid on a photo. Trace around it and cut it out. Use double-stick tape to attach it to the lid. Hot glue the edge of the lid to the backside of the canning ring. Glue a loop of ribbon to the top and it is ready for the tree!
Of course if you are making this with young children, have an adult work the glue gun to attach the canning lid and ribbon! Children will enjoy choosing glitter, painting on glue and dipping it in the glitter! Many ages would love tracing the circle for the photo, cutting it out and attaching it! Yes, do “Pin It” to your Pinterest board for next year!
Happy New Year!
Anna
*Thanks to Consumer Crafts for sending me the Darice glitter. As you well know I love a little glitter in my life! As always, all opinions are my own.
